Rare Type of Bone Cancer: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment

Hi, I'm  Mike Schneider I've been coming to MD Anderson for about two years I have a rare type of bone cancer called chondrosarcoma bone cancer in and of itself is kind of rare about

one out of every 2,000 cancer patients has bone cancer and if you take that group the next

one out of 2,000 have my specific type of bone cancer chondrosarcoma and then the

additional part is mines rather fast moving and chondrosarcoma is normally slow-moving I

came to MD Anderson after my doctor in Albuquerque said my tumors were moving too fast

that there was nothing else he could do and he thought I was probably gonna die somewhere

between five and fifteen years from them and I just said you know I'm not I refused to accept

 that diagnosis and started looking into alternatives and resources like so many people had

 obviously heard about MD Anderson filled out the online paperwork for an appointment

came here was evaluated and lo and behold there was not only not only one but two or three

separate drug trials going on specifically for my type of bone cancer and the the first one

 didn't work too well and the drug trial was cancelled but the one I'm on now for a drug culpas

openhab is actually going very well and my tumors haven't grown in six months and it's been nearly ten years since I've been able to say that.

Side effects of treatment for rare bone cancers

Side effects have been fairly minimal the the worst one is the most obvious it turned my hair

white 55 so that's a little young to have my hair this light but as one friend pointed out at

least you have hair to complain about the the other real side effect that I've noticed is some

heartburn and indigestion type stuff but nothing that over-the-counter medicine hasn't been

able to handle other than that nothing really to speak of which has been a big refreshment

 because the previous drug was hitting me pretty hard i was suffering all the usual effects you

hear cancer patients complain about in terms of hair loss and sleeplessness and nothing tasting

 good I was down to practically bread and water by the time the first trial was canceled because

 that was all I could I could stand swallowing so this one is much much better and hopeful that

it it will get approved or at least that the trial is something I can continue on for quite a while because so far it's been very effective. Next What Type of Bone Cancers are There
