There are basically two types of lung cancer broadly categorized the first one is called small
cell lung cancer and the second type is called non-small cell lung cancer so it's defined by what
it is not small cell lung cancers are about twenty percent of all lung cancers these are
associated with sm0king non-small cell cancers are also associated with smoking but they
appear to develop from different types of cells these represent the majority of lung cancers
about 80% with in non-small-cell lung cancers there are subtypes based on the cells that are
growing into these tumors the most common is called adenocarcinoma and the second most
common is called squamous cell carcinoma the adenocarcinoma is interestingly are the ones
that we are seeing more frequently these days especially amongst the non-smoking women
